Flashback to last season for the Toronto Blue Jays, they had five players who suited up to play second base. Due to this issue and the plan to keep Gold Glove center fielder Kevin Kiermaier healthy they deployed most of their second basemen in left field. Well we’re into a brand new season and they still are doing that. When the season ended they said goodbye to Whit Merrifield and traded away former All-Star Santiago Espinal to the Cincinnati Reds. Even this season they designated Cavan Biggio for assignment where he eventually landed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. But still they seem to keep deploying infielders in the outfield as they signed Isaiah Kiner Flaefa to play alongside utility player Ernie Clemet who is only on the roster to backup SS Bo Bichette. The missing player I did not mention is Davis Schneider who is a natural born second baseman who is out there for his bat and has played almost more than double of his games out in left field this season.  He was the reason that Biggio and Merrifield played much of their games in left field with Dalton Varsho sliding over to center field which is a stretch for a former catcher to do.

What it seems like is that manager John Schneider (no relation) doesn’t realize that Davis is the last man standing from that group of starting players. Instead they are either playing the two utility players or recently been using Spencer Horowitz who is a first baseman who has more career innings in left field due to first base being blocked. It would make more sense for Horowitz to play left field than second base. Let Davis play his natural position which is what he did last season bumping veterans to the outfield instead of him being bumped to play utility players or playing guys out of position.

The Blue Jay are currently in last place, eight games under .500 and 14 games out of first place in the AL East. There are rumors of them potentially firing their manager who at one point was the interim manager himself and that it might not be his decision going forward on who plays where. It is going to be a long second half and might as well give the fans what they deserve to see which is an infield of Bichette, Guerrero Jr., Schneider, and IKF.
