NFL Recap Week 7 2021:

Browns 17-14 over the Broncos: The Browns were without their starting QB Baker Mayfield, and both of their running backs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, but still went up 10-0 early to hold on to win a close game. QB Teddy Bridgewater did his best with a comeback attempt with two TD passes but it wasn’t enough as he had an interception.

Bengals 41-17 over the Ravens: QB Joe Burrow had three TDs and both RBs had rushing TDs, while QB Lamar Jackson only had one TD pass.

Falcons 30-28 over the Dolphins: The Dolphins took the early lead but would trail for most of the game until they went up by one late in the 4th quarter, but then the Falcons hit the game winning field goal as time expired. QB Tua Tagovailoa had four TD passes but two interceptions and his kicker missed a field goal.

Packers 24-10 over Washington: The Packers defense forced four fumbles and picked off QB Tyler Heineke once and Washington’s kicker missed a field goal. QB Aaron Rodgers had three TD passes.

Titans 27-3 over the Chiefs: The Chiefs had three fumbles, a missed field goal and QB Patrick Mahomes threw an interception with no TD passes. QB Ryan Tannehill had both a passing and rushing TD while RB Derrick Henry threw a TD pass.

Patriots 54-13 over the Jets: QB Mac Jones had two passing TDs, WR Kendrick Bourne threw a TD pass, RB Damien Harris had two rushing TDs, and RB JJ Taylor also had two rushing TDs. QB Zach Wilson got hurt with a knee injury while backup QB Mike White had two TD passes but two interceptions, RB Elijah Moore had a rushing TD but they missed a field goal and had a fumble.

Giants 25-3 over the Panthers: All the Panthers could muster up was just over 200 yards with a field goal for offense, plus Sam Darnold threw an interception and was sacked for a safety before getting benched. QB Daniel Jones had one passing TD and RB Devontae Booker had a rushing TD.

Rams 28-19 over the Lions: In what was supposed to be QB Jared Goff’s revenge game became the revenge game for HC Sean McVay, as his defense forced Goff into two interceptions and the Lions are now 0-7. QB Matthew Stafford who was traded for Goff had three TDs with no interceptions.

Raiders 33-22 over the Eagles: The Raiders went up 17-7 at halftime and never looked back as QB Derek Carr had two TD passes and both running backs Josh Jacobs and Kenyan Drake had rushing TDs. QB Jalen Hurts did his best to come back with two TD passes but his team fumbled the ball away three times.

Cardinals 31-5 over the Texans: The game started well for the Texans as they sacked QB Kyler Murray in the end zone for a safety and took a 5-0 lead but that was the last time they led in the game. Murray had three TD passes and RB James Connor had a TD.

Buccaneers 38-3 over the Bears: The Bears offense looked horrible as Justin Fields had 0 TDs, three interceptions, and three of his team’s four fumbles, plus he was sacked four times. While their defense let QB Tom Brady throw four TD passes, three to WR Mike Evans and RB Leonard Fournette had a rushing TD.

Colts 30-18 over the 49ers: QB Carson Wentz had two passing TDs and a rushing TD, plus RB Jonathan Taylor had a rushing TD. QB Jimmy Garoppolo had one passing TD but had two interceptions in the 4th quarter and two of his team’s three fumbles, plus his kicker missed an extra point.

Saints 13-10 over the Seahawks: The Saints overcame two fumbles to hit the go-ahead field goal to win a close game. QB Jameis Winston had one TD pass while QB Geno Smith also had one TD pass for Seattle but their kicker missed two field goals.

Bye Week: Bills, Cowboys, Jaguars, Vikings, Steelers & Chargers.

Broadcast Fall 2021 TV Review:

CBS:

FBI International: The third installment of the FBI franchise is about the FBI international fly team of agents whose mission is tracking and neutralizing threats against American citizens wherever they may be as they travel the world. They are based in Budapest, Europe where Scott Forrester(played by Luke Kleintank of Bones & the man in the high castle) is their leader, his second in command in Jamie Kellet, their expert in accounting/tech in Andy Raines, their political expert Katrin Jager, and their newest member from Seattle their interrogation expert Cameron Vo, plus their black Schutzhund retired K9. They are not allowed to carry guns, the Fly Team members rely on intelligence, quick thinking and pure brawn as they put their lives on the line to protect the U.S. and its people.

Verdict: Renewed. It is like the two that came before it (FBI & FBI: Most Wanted) ; they pretty much get down to business in the majority of the episode by saving someone or stopping a bad guy. That is the beauty of this franchise, no unneeded drama. Sometimes they show their personal lives like if they have a wife/husband/bf/gf or their kids but it’s for just a minimal amount of time. Like the other two they each have people who have a certain set of skills, they do well which is why they’re on that specific team and you will get to time to figure out who is your favorite. The added bonus is there is a dog on the team which is a plus. One thing I think Dick Wolf gets is that you do not need to pay for high priced actors to lead a show if you spend the money on hiring good writers, so that no matter whom you hire the script and the action will lead the show in the right direction. In the other two shows only a few actors have had big time acting credits, but only a few like Jeremy Sisto(FBI), Julian McMahon(FBI: Most Wanted) and Kellen Lutz(FBI: Most Wanted). This will get renewed because it was given a full season of episodes which is always a good sign for renewal, but also because “Most Wanted” was created and picked up right away. “Most Wanted” had a backdoor pilot in season one of FBI and went straight to series, so once this show was announced we all had a feeling that CBS would want this to succeed as well despite it being a crossover not a backdoor pilot. They want a night for all of the FBI shows to be on like NBC does with Law & Order, or the Chicago shows, or NCIS on the CBS.

Ghosts: Based on the British comedy of the same name it is where Married New Yorkers Samantha (Rose McIver of Izombie & Power Rangers RPM) a freelance journalist and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar of Mindy Project & Hamilton) a chef believe that their dreams have come true in receiving a beautiful country house in an inheritance to turn into a bed and breakfast, only to find that it is falling apart and inhabited by a number of deceased previous residents. The departed souls are a close-knit, eclectic group that includes a saucy Prohibition-era lounge singer, a pompous 1700's Militiaman, a '60s hippie fond of hallucinogens, and an overly upbeat '80s scout troop leader. If the spirits were anxious about the commotion a renovation and B&B will create in their home, it's nothing compared to when they realize Samantha is the first live person who can see and hear them after an accident gives her those abilities. Verdict: Renewed. When you can laugh more than five times an episode then you know it has been written well and that the humor is clever without sophomoric humor plus has a feel-good charm. I really like the cast playing the ghosts. It is a unique set of characters and actors who bring plenty to the show since they actually hold the show together. If it weren’t for the ghosts the show wouldn’t be funny so they had to get it right and they did. The one with the most credits is Rebecca Wisocky(Devious Maids and Picard) and Brandon Scott Jones(of The good place). It is nice that McIver has another show after her CW ended so we know she can lead a show, and the question will be can she lead a sitcom going forward. The guy playing her husband does have a Broadway background so that might help with him going with the flow of the show as he has to play off his wife communicating with the ghosts and deal with all the consequences. It is nice that there is a non Chuck Lorre sitcom to be on CBS as the last three that got renewed were all of his shows and those three did not deserve to be renewed. This is somewhat of an original idea since it’s based off a British show but it is very different from other shows and with Mom ending and the Unicorn being cancelled there is room in the CBS lineup for this show. It got a full season order after three episodes which is a good sign that means there is a likely chance it gets renewed because it’s rare that shows get cancelled when this happens.

NBC:

Ordinary Joe: The series centers on Joe Kimbreau as he makes a pivotal, life-changing decision at his graduation from Syracuse University. The show follows him on three parallel timelines, starting 10 years after his graduation: as a police officer, following in his father's footsteps; as a music star, following his passion; and as a nurse, after he marries his college sweetheart.

Verdict: Renewed. This is another show with positivity and uplifting messages. The way James Wolk plays all three versions of Joe makes him loveable and very easy to root for as he is a guy/character we all can get behind. We all can relate to over-thinking every situation even if it is the major one or the little ones. Also it is relatable of what your profession and love life would be based on the choices you make, as when I was a kid I wanted to be a rock star, an athlete or a cop but with Joe is he a cop, nurse or a rock star in each life. The supporting cast of his mom, aunt, uncle, best friend and whomever he is dating/married do a great job especially his uncle played by David Warshofsky(of Lincoln & Captain Phillips). He is like the father figure to Joe, he needs him in his job since he lost his father on 9/11. There are  lots of elements thrown in about losing his father. He is his security guard in the music life and his TO in the cop life. I do like seeing Natalie Martinez (of Under the Dome & APB) being one of his love interests as she has had some bad luck in the TV world, as at least 8 or more shows where she is one of the main characters get cancelled after one or two years. The child actor playing his son no matter the life should get a lot of credit for doing a good job playing this role despite his medical issues- is very courageous. I like that no matter the timeline he can sing and play music and has done some Billy Joel and James Taylor tracks plus he is a New York Giant fan too. There is room in the NBC lineup for a good uplifting drama about how one single moment can change everything plus the writing has been solid so far. With Zoey’s Playlist, Good Girls, Manifest and the last few years of sci-fi shows being cancelled it should definitely make the lineup because there is room in the lineup plus “This is us” is ending too. I just hope it doesn’t become a bubble show like some of those mentioned and get the boot too early.

La Brea: When a massive sinkhole opens in the middle of Los Angeles at the site of the La Brea Tar Pits and Wilshire Boulevard, hundreds of people and buildings are pulled into its depths. The survivors find themselves trapped in a mysterious and dangerous primeval land where they must band together to survive. The show follows one family (father, mother, son, and daughter) who are separated by the events and attempting to reunite. The father has visions providing glimpses of when and where his wife and son are. The sinkhole and the sudden appearance of the Teratornis has attracted the attention of the United States Department of Homeland Security who are studying a similar event in the Mojave Desert. Verdict: Cancelled. Every year one of the three major networks comes out with a science based mystery or fantasy mystery event that the whole world needs to know how it will get solved. They all look really cool aesthetically with the amazing landscapes, visuals and science fiction special effects but that’s where most of the budget seems to go. Then it gets confusing as to which government agency is looking into what happened or if the police are looking into it, and then you get regular johns looking into it plus people with a connection to the event. This time it is the father of one family who is having visions of the place his family is working at with the government like how the passengers in Manifest had visions. The issues that bogged down the others were all the unneeded drama that happens like in relationships with potential love triangles, estranged family members or dysfunction in families. They also try to make it the most diverse show as well with who the main characters are like in this show they have a few British people who are not white, an Indian dude who is supposedly from Australia, a multi racial couple (LGBT), and of course a few Hispanic people including John Seda (of Gladiator & Chicago PD) is who is half Puerto Rican. Another big issue with this is how the lead woman is not good as a lead actress as I have seen her only be a love interest in a few shows in Natalie Zea (of Justified & the Detour) . It might be better with a different lead and Seda is the only one with real acting credits which doesn’t help that he is in a supporting role. But I understand them doing an eclectic ensemble cast to show that despite everyone’s issues/different walks of life they can all work together to find a way home, but no one is really leading this show. Even one of the characters in the show says this feels like they’re on “Lost” which means this has been done before like in Manifest, The Crossing and Debis to name some which was just done earlier this year on the same network. The dialogue and writing on this show is so cliché and is following a used formula on drama between certain characters and how they try to lead the people all through this/unneeded conversations. The main character’s daughter is a woman with a disability too so they throw that in there too and people are complaining they didn’t do any research on some of the science going on/continuity going on. The premise of being back in 10,000 BC after falling through a sinkhole has all this promise but they went in the wrong direction for every aspect of the show as they seemed to not get what makes a good show. With how the networks usually cancel it after one season or forget about it even if they renew it I would pull the plug before the season ends, but also want to see how they figure out how to go home. I wouldn’t see this premise going on for that long because they need to figure out how to get home and they can do that in a few seasons.

ABC:

The Wonder Years: Inspired by the 1988 series of the same name this is the coming-of-age story of a 12-year-old Black youth named Dean Williams, in Montgomery, Ala., in the late 1960s, as told by his adult self voiced by Don Cheadle.

Verdict: Renewed. Another Lee Daniels black centered show has hit the airwaves this fall. This time he is tackling an 80’s classic sitcom about a coming of age story that started with Fred Savage but rebooting it with a black family. Savage is actually also producing and directing so I have confidence that he can guide this ship in the right direction plus he has Don Cheadle narrating the story which is a positive. They also did a good job of casting the boy (EJ Williams) who looks like a young Cheadle so it makes sense. I have laughed a few times during the episodes but feel like it is more of a drama then a comedy so let’s say it’s a dramedy. It gives me a vibe of “Everybody Hates Chris” but some of the social issues seem forced like race but I did enjoy the baseball episode and baseball cards being traded in one episode. I have seen the father (Dule Hill of West Wing & Psych) and sister(Laura Kariuki of Black Lightning) before so I am familiar with some of the cast and the writing has been good so far as he is learning lessons like he is supposed to be doing. The only real update is it is about a black family which is definitely a different perspective especially in the 60’s/70’s than a white family like the original, which I can give them credit for but that’s it. As I don’t get why they had to remake it in the first place, but also why it had to be the 60’s again they could have done the 80’s/90’s to give it a fresh update. I never watched the original as it was before my time but I think Savage will help guide this show in the right direction and with three long running sitcoms done on ABC over the past few seasons, plus them canceling a bunch there is room in ABC’s schedule for this show going forward.

Queens: Brianna, Jill, Valeria and Naomi once appeared as the "Nasty Bitches'' in the 1990s. Together, the four of them not only turned the world of hip-hop upside down, but also achieved legendary status through their music. The four women are now in their forties, unworldly and largely estranged, so by reuniting the four there is now a chance to return to their old fame and vigor. But will the former megastars, also known as Professor Sex, Butter Pecan, Da Thrill and Xplicit Lyrics, manage to achieve this ambitious goal?

Verdict: Renewed. ABC is the capital of one hour dramas as Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19, The Good Doctor and Big Sky might be a medical, a firefighter, or a law enforcement show but the underlying theme is drama all about drama. ABC also has one of the most popular drama’s on TV in A Million Little Things, so it would make sense as all they make are dramas especially reality TV(Bachelor, Bachelorette and dancing with the stars). This show has plenty of drama as all four of them have their issues as one’s husband cheated on her but had cancer, one is now as a lesbian, another has a daughter she barely knows as she’s been trying to be a solo artist, and the other one has been a talk show host who got fired. Also they are working with a young rapper who is in rehab, the love triangle between the manager and two of them, and they teased an obligatory teaser of someone getting shot. I do like that the show isn’t about them starting off or during their height of fame, it is what they are doing now and how they can recapture the magic they had when they were famous. I only know Brandy(of Moesha & Cinderella) from her acting on Fox’s “Star” as Queen Latifah’s sister and it is nice to see Nadine Velazquez(of The Leauge & My Name is Earl) as she barely spoke on the show that I know her from. ABC is trying to capture the magic of Fox’s Empire which was a family music drama of running a music company while this is one about one group trying to make it big again. Many people can relate to not achieving their dreams or wondering where their life went in their middle age years so we all want to see them achieve the goal of becoming big again. I do like shows that center around music even if it’s rapping as two of the women in this show are professional singers in Brandy and Eve(of Eve & Barber Shop). There is something about this show that draws you in and does not want to stop watching it with a glee on your face.

CW:

4400: In an instant, at least 4,400 people who have mysteriously disappeared from the face of the earth over the past century are returned to Detroit, having not aged a day and with no memory of what happened to them. As the government races to understand the phenomenon, civil servants are enlisted to deal with the aftermath. The unlikely partnership clash in ideology and approach but gradually find they have more in common than they thought as they become familiar with those under their care. The group of unwilling time travelers have to grapple with their impossible new reality, the fact that they were returned with a few upgrades, and the idea that they were brought back to this time period for a reason. Verdict: Renewed. It is interesting that the CW finally has gotten into the Sci-Fi-fantasy mystery event game like Fox and the three main broadcast stations where there have been hits like Lost(ABC) and flops like the Crossing(ABC) and Debris(NBC) to name some. CW rarely cancels a show- they renew everything as the only way shows are taken off the air is when the show decides it’s time to end its run. The show is interesting enough that we all want to see how it all goes down and how it adds up to how/what it all means or why they all were taken to 2021 from different time periods. It is also cool to see what powers all of these people have and the consequences of said powers. With the CW not cancelling shows the hope is the creator of the show can get a full opportunity to tell a full story without shortcuts. When I did research I found it is a remake of a show from 2004-2007 from USA network with Joel Gretsch and Mahershala Ali to name some of the actors, where it takes place in Washington state but with a mostly white cast. This show has some white characters, Hispanic or Asian characters but it is a very black centered show as most of the main 4400 group that get speaking roles are black/the two officers working with the 4440 are as well. The correctional officer is not just in an interracial relationship she is dating another woman who happens to be in charge of the investigation as well so too much coincidence going on and one of the 4400 is a transgender male too. The only actor I am familiar with is Joseph David-Jones who played Connor Hawke in Arrow and I like his approach in wanting to help the 4400 and his connection into finding his lost brother.

FOX:

Our Kind of People: In the world of Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard is a historical stronghold where the rich and powerful Black elite have come to play for over 50 years. Single mom Angela Vaughn sets out to reclaim her family's name and make an impact with her revolutionary hair care line that highlights the innate, natural beauty of Black women, but she soon discovers a dark secret about her own mother's past that will turn her world upside-down and shake up this community forever.

Verdict: Cancelled. I am sorry to say this Lee Daniels but not everything you make is good-can you bring back “Star” or “Empire”? I know this is based on a popular book too that I have not read but the writing on this show is horrible/choppy/all over the place. I have been bored for most of time watching it as only a few seconds of reveals have caught some interest, like her finding out she is from this powerful black family. There has been no real build up on some of these reveals, they all feel rushed. It is like the black “Dynasty” or “Filthy Rich” which is good  that they want to make a version for the black community but it has been done before like in “Empire”. I was excited to see Morris Chestnut(of Rosewood & The Resident) and Joe Morton(of Scandal & God Friended me) be in another show as some of their shows have been cancelled way too quickly, but it is odd that with all their acting skills they are just supporting cast members. Same goes for Debbie Morgan (of All of my children & What’s happening) and Lance Gross(of Star & MacGyver) as their talents are being wasted. The lead actress Yaya DaCosta(of Chicago Med & Ugly Betty) is overacting and trying too hard. Maybe if they had a better lead actress it could be better. With them rushing all the reveals and “Oohs & Ahhs” I have to take notes on who is who and who is related/married to someone. I understand she is trying to take down an old hierarchy of power/privilege, but is a common element in shows before. I know this show isn’t meant for me a white male, but I do not think the people who watch broadcast TV will like this show and it is geared towards mostly black women, but even they can see this show is horrible. I do like that they took the time for a theme song and hopefully Chestnut will go back to the Resident after they cancel this.

The Big Leap: A group of underdogs from Detroit who are down on their luck attempt to change their lives by participating in a reality dance show that builds to a live production of "Swan Lake '' that potentially offers them each a second chance at their dreams.

Verdict: Renewed. We all need an uplifting show since we are still going through tough times and it is also a show about second chances, plus underdogs which is very relatable to many. There are so many interesting unique characters where they are actually building out their stories well enough for you to be interested in their character growth. The writing and acting so far has been on par with the talent on this show as Scott Foley(of Felicity& Scandal), John Radinsky(of SNL & Champions), Kevin Daniels(Modern Family & Sirens), Piper Perabo(of Cheaper by the dozen & Covert affairs) and Teri Polo(of the Fosters & Meet the Fockers) have their talents actually be used correctly in their roles. Radinsky brings much needed comedy relief and Foley is leading the show’s production which is what he should do as the biggest name on the show. It’s more personal to me that Foley gets another crack at a TV (he seems to be on shows cancelled) show and same for Radinsky(one year of SNL). I also enjoy the unknown actors like the main actors Gaby (played by Simone Recasner) & her gay best friend Justin (played by Ray Cham) to name some. Plus I like the disgraced current football player doing this Broadway competition show (played by Ser’Darius Blain of Charmed & Jumanji). This show is different from “Zoey’s playlist” but it is another show that exudes positivity and has a good balance of music and dancing as well to not turn you off . My only issue is how long is this show supposed to go because if it’s building up to them doing “Swan Lake '' and when they get to that point what do they do moving forward? The main characters’ lives are interesting but only because it helps tell the story of them competing for the show. Unless the creator knows how many seasons/episodes it should get I have a sad feeling that with Fox’s track record it might be cancelled before it should end. You don’t have to worry because this show is good enough to last a full season and beyond.

2021 NFL Recap Week 6:

Buccaneers 28-22 over the Eagles: The Buccaneers were up 21-7 entering halftime and never looked back thanks to QB Tom Brady throwing two TD passes and RB Leonard Fournette having one of his two rushing TDs in the first half. QB Jalen Hurts did his best to come back from one interception and his team missing a field goal with one passing TD and two rushing TDs, but it wasn’t enough.

Jaguars 23-20 over the Dolphins: The battle of two Florida teams-but in London had Jacksonville get their first win of the season with a game tying and a game winning field goal. QB Trevor Lawrence had one TD pass and RB James Robinson had a rushing TD. Miami got QB Tua Tagovailoa back from injury and he had two passing TDs, both to WR Jaylen Waddle.

Chiefs 31-13 over Washington: QB Patrick Mahomes had two TD passes and RB Darrel Williams had two rushing TDs. Washington had a fumble, an interception, and a missed field goal, only being able to get one TD.

Rams 38-11 over the Giants: QB Matthew Stafford had four TDs and RB Darrell Henderson had a rushing TD and caught one of those TD passes. Returning from a concussion QB Daniel Jones had no TD passes, three interceptions and two fumbles. Their only TD came on a rushing TD by their 3rd string RB Elijhaa Penny.

Colts 31-3 over the Texans: QB Carson Wentz had two passing TDs and RB Jonathan Taylor had two rushing TDs. Rookie QB David Mills had no passing TDs with two interceptions and RB David Johnson had a fumble.

Bengals 34-11 over the Lions: QB Joe Burrow had three passing TDs and his backup Brandon Allen had a TD pass too. QB Jared Goff had no passing TDs with an interception, and their only TD was a rushing TD by D’Andre Swift.

Packers 24-14 over the Bears: The Bears went up 7-0 to start the game but everything went downhill after. QB Justin Fields threw an interception and the Bears let QB Aaron Rodgers throw two passing TDs and one rushing TD. Rookie RB Khalil Herbert had the Bears first TD, his first career TD.

Ravens 34-6 over the Chargers: The Ravens had three rushing TDs by Devonta Freeman, Latavius Murray and Le’Veon Bell all running backs that they got off the street which helped overcome QB Lamar Jackson’s one TD but two interception day. All the Chargers could muster up was one TD by QB Justin Herbert, but he had an interception plus they missed an extra point.

Vikings 34-28 over the Panthers (OT): After missing the game winning field goal (one of two) in the 4th quarter the Vikings rallied in overtime as QB Kirk Cousins threw the game winning TD pass. Cousins had three total TD passes and RB Dalvin Cook had a rushing TD. QB Sam Darnold only had one passing TD, his backup RB Chunba Hubbard had a rushing TD (his first career TD), and his team blocked a punt which was returned for a TD.

Cardinals 37-14 over the Browns: QB Kyler Murray had four TD passes, no interceptions but four fumbles, while QB Baker Mayfield only had two TD passes with an interception and two fumbles.

Raiders 34-24 over the Broncos: In the aftermath of Jon Gruden’s email fiasco leading to his resignation, QB Derek Carr had two passing TDs, and both of the RBS Josh Jacobs and Kenyan Drake had a rushing TD (caught one of those passing TDs). Their defense did give QB Teddy Bridgewater three TD passes but they picked him off three times with two coming in the 4th quarter, plus forced him to fumble once.

Cowboys 35-29 over the Patriots (OT): QB Dak Prescott led his team to the game tying field goal and threw the game winning TD pass in overtime. Prescott had three TD passes, two to WR CeeDee Lamb. QB Mac Jones had two TD passes but threw his one interception which was returned for a TD in the 4th quarter.

Steelers 23-20 over the Seahawks (OT): The Seahawks fought their way back to tie the game with a field goal as time expired but then fumbled the ball away in overtime, which led to the Steelers game winning field goal in overtime. Backup QB Geno Smith did his best with a passing TD and backup RB Alex Collins had a rushing TD to help the comeback that got them to overtime. QB Ben Roethlisberger had one passing TD and TE Eric Ebron had a rushing TD.

Titans 34-31 over the Bills: It was all RB Derrick Henry who had 143 yards rushing with three rushing TDs with one being the go ahead score in the 4th quarter. QB Josh Allen kept his team ahead for a good chunk of the game with three passing TDs and he caught a two-point conversion but failed to convert on 4th down sealing the game.

Bye Week: Falcons, Saints, Jets & 49ers.

2021-2022 NBA Preview:

Central: The defending NBA champion Bucks will be bringing back the same core of F Giannis Antetokounmpo, F Kris Middleton, PG Jrue Holiday, C Brook Lopez and kept C/F Bobby Portis. They also added guards George Hill, Grayson Allen and Rodney Hood to the core of young wing players they have in Donte DiVincnezo, Pat Connaughton and brought in a young big man in Semi Ojeleye making up a nice core. They have a good chance of repeating as Eastern conference champions but will be difficult to repeat against a tough West team in the finals.

The Pacers realized they made a mistake quickly by firing Nate McMillian for Nate Bjorkgren who they fired after one year as they failed to make the playoffs this year. McMillian was fired for not going far in the playoffs despite making it every year essentially when he was the coach so they hired Rick Carlisle(his second stint). This team has a nice young core of F Domantas Sabonis, C Myles Turner, G Malcolm Brogdon and even got G Caris LaVert for Victor Oladipo so now they have four players to lead this team to the playoffs. Their role players F TJ Warren, guards TJ McConnell, Justin Holiday and Torrey Craig, plus their draft picks make up good depth for this team as they will reestablish their consistency.

The Bulls made a huge roster overhaul that started at the deadline this past season by trading away a lot of their injured players who were not helping by getting All-Star center Nikola Vucevic, then they added DeMar DeRozan, guards Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso to help facilitate the ball to move the offense. All of these moves takes pressure off of G Zach LaVine from having to score all the points/jack up three pointers, plus he has a veteran presence of DeRozan to help him lead. They also have a nice young core in F Patrick Williams, guards Coby White, first round pick Ayo Dosunmu, C Tony Bradley, plus brought in veterans for the bench in Stanley Johnson and Derrick Jones Jr. for Lauri Markkanen Head coach Billy Donovan finally has a good starting lineup and bench that help guide this team to their first playoff appearance in four seasons.

The Pistons did have the first overall pick in the draft but were not the worst team as they got better by drafting G Cade Cunningham to pair with G Killian Hayes to form a nice young core going forward. They also added veteran forwards Trey Lyles, Kelly Olynyk to replace the big men they lost, and they re-signed guards Corey Joseph, Rodney McGruder and Hamidou Diallo. They also still have forwards Jerami Grant, Saddiq Bey and drafted Luka Garza among their other draft picks. Head coach Dwane Casey didn’t imagine he would be in charge of a rebuild when he signed but will gladly take the opportunity to coach the start of these young talented players’ careers like Hayes and Cunningham.

The Cavaliers have a nice young talented backcourt of Collin Sexton and Darius Garland but they don’t fit with them being small. They made a smart decision the past two drafts by taking Isaac Okoro at SF to fill a hole and drafted PF Evan Mobley this year as that was the only open position. They are a team in rebuild but made moves of a playoff team in getting Ricky Rubio, Denzel Valentine, trade for Lauri Markkanen, and still have PF Kevin Love on the roster still. They still also have the same issue of having too many big men in Love, Markkanen, Mobley, Tacko Fall and signing C Jarrett Allen long term.

Atlantic: The Nets will be one of the favorites to win the East or the whole thing due to having a deadly big three in guards James Harden, Kyrie Irving and F Kevin Durant, but the issue will be like last year will all three be on the court at the same time due to injuries or personal reasons. The other issue will be can Steve Nash mix and match the other two starting spots for defense or shooting from the key bench players in James Johnson, Patty Mills, Joe Harris, LaMarcus Aldridge who is back from heart trouble and Blake Griffin. They also were smart for drafting five players on rookie deals for depth as most of their salary is committed to the big three, plus they still have Bruce Brown, Javon Carter and Nicolas Claxton which is their other young talent.

The Celtics will have to keep relying on their duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown now that PG Kemba Walker was traded, which is enough to have a top five seed in the East but not enough to win it all. They did bring back Al Horford, Enes Kanter to provide some front court presence that were missing last year and signed PG Dennis Schroder to fill the hole at PG, plus re-signed Robert Williams and Marcus Smart to keep that core intact. Adding Josh Richardson to their team to strictly be a bench player will help their depth too and take pressure off him, but can first year head coach Ime Udoka live up the hype surrounding him to push the Celtics back to the top of the East.

The Knicks were one of the surprise playoff teams making it for the first time in seven seasons due to Julius Randle putting up MVP numbers and the team buying into head coach Tom Thibodeau’s philosophy of playing hard, hustling, rebounding and playing defense.  Coming off that season they added PG Kemba Walker, the New York native, G Evan Fournier and kept their core of PG Derrick Rose, Alec Burks, Taj Gibson and Nerlens Noel. You also can’t forget the young talent they still have in SF RJ Barrett, Obi Toppin, Mitchell Robinson, Kevin Knox and Immanuel Quickly, which means they have depth now so they could finish with a better record.

The 76ers had the best record in the East last year but they are the one team that will regress to the mean and might even drop out of the playoff race all together thanks to their handling of Ben Simmons. He hasn’t been traded yet and doesn’t want to play for them leaving a huge hole in their lineup as their best player C Joel Embiid, one of the best centers in the NBA cannot stay healthy hence needing Simmons or something in return. The rest of the team are just role players in Danny Green, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond, Tobias Harris and inexperienced players in Matisse Thybulle, Tyrese Maxey, Shake Milton and Furkan Korkmaz. It will be a long season for Doc Rivers and company until they settle the Simmons saga.

The Raptors didn’t make the playoffs last year breaking their seven year streak of making the playoffs and are starting a new streak of not making the playoffs. They got worse this year as they said goodbye to another franchise stalwart in PG Kyle Lowry, veterans Rodney Hood and Aaron Baynes. All of their hopes are tied up in Fred Van Fleet, OG Anunoby, Gary Trent Jr., Goran Dragic who came in the Lowry trade, and PF Pascal Siakam which doesn’t scream playoff team. They are stuck in the wrong place of not good enough to make the playoffs and not bad enough for a lottery pick, as some evaluators think they made a mistake with their 1st round pick being a forward when they have plenty. Unless they trade Dragic and Siakam they will be stuck in the middle for some time.

Southeast: The Heat already were a good team with Jimmy Butler leading this young team of Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson to name some but got even better by trading for PG Kyle Lowry, signing PJ Tucker, Markieff Morris for toughness and re-signed Victor Oladipo. This is their division to lose but also they have a good chance of being a top three seed this year unlike last year.

The Hawks were another surprise playoff team making it for the first time in three seasons due to PG Tre Young’s incredible season and the mid-season firing of Lloyd Pierce, which led to Nate McMillian crafting the right lineups to guide them to the playoffs. They have a good balance of veterans and young players which is why they have one of deepest benches in all of the NBA. They kept John Collins, extended Clint Capela, re-signed Lou Williams, Solomon Hill and still have Danilo Gallinari, Bogdan Bogdanovic, De’Andre Hunter, Kevin Huerter and Cam Reddish. Not to mention getting  Gorgui Dieng, Delon Wright and their first round pick Jalen Johnson

The Wizards only were in the playoffs due to G Bradley Beal being one of the best players and they had PG Russell Westbrook to help them make the playoffs but it is another new era for them. Wes Unseld Jr is following in his father’s footsteps in taking the head coaching job and got a haul of players for the Westbrook and Moe Wagner trade as they got three starters in center Daniel Gafford, PG Spencer Dinwiddie , SF Kyle Kuzma, role players Aaron Holiday, Montrezl Harrell and Kentavious Caldwell Pope, which pushes Davis Bertans, Rui Hachimura and Deni Avdija to role players/bench players.

The Hornets are a fun team to watch because of last year’s rookie of the year PG LaMelo Ball and young player Miles Bridges making highlight plays, plus they still have Gordon Hayward. They did let long-time center Cody Zeller leave and traded away Devonte Graham their best player pre Ball, plus Malik Monk left. To fill the holes they made they brought in Mason Plumlee, Kelly Oubre Jr, Ish Smith and decided to extend Terry Rozier a PG to play SG. They did also draft well again with two first round picks G James Bouknight to back up Ball and C Kai Jones to potentially be their starting center.

The Magic should make it official they are in rebuild mode as Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vucevic were at the deadline last year, they hired a new head coach in Jamhl Mosley and drafted two key first round picks this (one pick from one of the trades) in Jalen Suggs and Franz Wagner. They now have four young guards-two they drafted in Suggs, Cole Anthony and ones in a trade in Markelle Fultz and RJ Hampton going forward. They do not have their front court really set up since Jonathan Isaac is out, Wendell Carter never stays healthy, Mo Bamba hasn’t really developed, Chuma Okeke is inexperienced, Moritz Wagner/Robin Lopez are veteran place holders.

Northwest: The Nuggets did their best in the playoffs without PG Jamal Murray who will miss sometime this year because of SF Michael Porter Jr stepping up his scoring to help MVP C Nikola Jokic. Those three when healthy will compete for a top spot in the West like they have been doing the past few seasons. This is due to their depth especially when they traded for F Aaron Gordon who gets to play PF not SF, and they still have guards Austin Rivers, Will Barton, Monte Morris, C Bol Bol, PF JaMychal Green, and they signed F Jeff Green

The Jazz had the best record last year but that was fluke as this team is always good enough for a top seed in the West, but never does anything with it despite having C Rudy Gobert and SG Donovan Mitchell both of whom are All-Stars. They are always a well coached and disciplined team because of Quinn Snyder but it seems like they are missing a third star or at least a second scorer. They did re-sign PG Mike Conley Jr who is one of the most underrated players but not a star, and bringing in 35 year old Rudy Gay to pair with Joe Ingles and Bojan Bogdanovic, which gives depth and takes pressure of Jordan Clarkson (reigning sixth man of the year) but doesn’t push them over the top. They did add big men Eric Paschall and Hassan Whiteside to finally give them solid depth upfront.

The Trailblazers are always that team that barely makes the playoffs. It is PG Damian Lillard always doing it by himself since any help he gets is always hurt and he has no second star to help him. There is still a chance he gets traded or his teammate SG CJ McCollum could get traded because what they have is clearly not working, hence the firing of the head coach Terry Stotts and hiring former PG Chauncy Billups. They invested heavily in Norman Powell but him, F Robert Covington, C Jusuf Nurkic who never stays healthy, and G Anfernee Simons don’t put them over the top either. They lost big men Enes Kanter, Zach Collins, Derrick Jones Jr and SF Carmelo Anthony, but replaced them with Cody Zeller, Patrick Patterson, G Quinn Cook, G Dennis Smith Jr, G Tony Sell, G Ben McLemore and F Larry Nance, none of those moves make up for the players they lost expect Nance.

The Timberwolves make no sense since they have C Karl Anthony Towns and PG DeAngelo Russell two top players at their positions/former All-Stars, and have Anthony Edwards a top rookie from last season and still keep finishing at the bottom of the whole league. They traded PG Ricky Rubio who is also a great defender for a third string SF on this roster in Taurean Prince, didn’t have a draft pick this year and traded a former top 6 in Jarrett Culver for G Patrick Beverly who is good for a team that is capable of winning which this team cannot do. They are overpaying for Malik Beasley who had issues with the law and they have no guaranteed starter at both forward positions which means another lottery pick potentially for them.

The Thunder are keeping the trend of getting draft picks from other teams which they did in the Kemba Walker salary dump-trade which is how they got rid of Al Horford, a veteran they didn’t need. They also picked up Derrick Favors along with another draft pick, and will probably be like Horford who will barely play and they will flip him for picks too. They gave Shai Gilgeous-Alexander a max extension locking him in for awhile so good luck going forward when your team is just about acquiring draft picks. It will all be on you to lead this team and help the other young players develop as they just added four rookies to their team this year too.

Southwest: The Mavericks will keep being a top five seed in the West and will win this division every year going forward because they have G Luka Doncic one of the best young players in the league, plus he signed a max extension so he will be in Dallas for awhile. The issue is he has no second star to rely on since F Kristaps Porzingis can never stay healthy, and as good as he is at scoring/shooting threes Tim Hardaway is a complementary player not a second star. They don’t really have a set SF or center unless they actually use Boban Marjanovic. Their biggest offseason moves were getting Reggie Bullock who is a good role player, and former Knicks bust at PG Frank Ntilikina to be backup. I am excited to see how their new head coach Jason Kidd will work with Doncic hopefully unlocking his full potential.

The Grizzlies are slowly improving every year as PG JA Morant keeps progressing in his career so far and will only get better as they were a playoff team last year. They traded C Jonas Valanciunas who has been so key for them at center and replaced him with Steven Adams, so hopefully they don’t lose a step if so maybe they can play Jaren Jackson Jr at center. They are hoping their first round pick F Ziaire Williams will take the starting SF job away from Kyle Anderson or Desmond Bane to help form that young core. They also got Jarrett Culver to push Dillon Brooks at SG as this young team will continue to make strides going forward just not past the first round.

The Spurs will keep that steak of not making the playoffs three years straight this year as they lost DeMar DeRozan, Patty Mills, Rudy Gay, Trey Lyles and Gorgui Dieng, plus draft evaluators said they reached on their first round pick but have six guards already. Head coach Greg Popovich has his work cut out with this very young team led by guards Derrick White, Dejounte Murray, Lonnie Walker, Tre Jones, PF Keldon Johnson, and have veterans Doug McDermott, Thaddeus Young, Al Farouq Aminu, Bryan Forbes and Zach Collins who all could be dealt at the deadline.

The Pelicans will only go as far as their forwards Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram take them but also how well they play together since both have an injury history too. New head coach Willie Green has the task of unlocking all that potential in Williamson, figuring out who will be their facilitator since Lonzo Ball is gone, and which big man will work best alongside his forwards in Jonas Valanciunas, Jaxson Hayes and Willy Hernangomez. They added Garrett Temple and Tomas Satoransky who both can handle the ball and shoot threes, but the lead PG will be Devonte Graham who hasn’t been a PG in a few seasons. They did a good job in the draft getting a 3 & D wing in Trey Murphy who will help Williamson as he needs three point shooters and defenders.

This season will officially be a full rebuilding season for the Rockets as last year they traded G James Harden midseason and this year drafted four teenagers. G Jalen Green has the most potential to be a scorer like Harden, have two of the best international prospects, get a full season of Kevin Porter Jr who they got from Cleveland, and still have their first round pick from last year in Kenyon Martin Jr. They brought in Daniel Theis to replace Kelly Olynyk to help Christian Wood, one of the most underrated players in the league down low, re-signed David Nwaba, and still have Eric Gordon, DJ Augustin and Dante Exum for veteran presence.

Pacific: The Lakers decided it was best to get the band back together to help SF Lebron James get another championship. The issue is all the players they brought in make them the oldest team and they are already fragile with C Anthony Davis. They gave up most of their team for PG Russell Westbrook (Kuzma, KCP, Harrell), who joins Lebron and Davis as most of their salary cap. So they brought back PG Rajon Rondo, C Dwight Howard, G Kent Bazemore, SF Trevor Ariza, G Wayne Ellington, added Lebron’s buddy F Carmelo Anthony, C DeAndre Jordan, and even signed two young players guards Kendrick Nunn and Malik Monk, who will play key roles as they have the young legs to play more minutes in the regular season. They also lost big men Andre Drummond, Markieff Morris, guards Alex Caruso and Dennis Schroder, which means they lost some of their young players but also some of their top defenders. It will be championship or bust since this team is old but will get through the regular season healthy so Lebron actually has help in the playoffs.

The Suns finally made the playoffs for the first time in ten years where they finished second in the Western conference standings, and made a trip to the NBA finals, but it will be tougher this year for both things they accomplished to happen again. The questions will be can PG Chris Paul stay healthy all season with all the extra games they played in the playoffs as he is 36, and will C Deandre Ayton build off his postseason success where he can take the next step in his progression or will he revert to his old ways. SG Devin Booker will always be someone you can count on for all the scoring, and having Jae Crowder’s toughness, and SF Mikal Bridges keeps getting better. Their bench got better this offseason as they added G Landry Shamet, G Elfrid Payton, F Chandler Hutchinson, C JaVale McGee to pair with Cameron Johnson, Abdel Nader, Frank Kaminsky and Cameron Payne

The Warriors will hopefully get SG Klay Thompson back from injury which they didn’t get last year due to an Achilles injury to pair with PG Steph Curry and F Draymond Green, which might push them into the 8th seed. Another season but with a real training camp will ultimately help C James Wiseman's development, Andrew Wiggins can be their fourth or fifth best player if Thompson is out there. They brought back F Andre Iguodala, added Otto Porter Jr, Nemanja Bjelica, and Avery Bradley  which will make this great three point shooting team better plus some defense out of Bradley and Iguodala. They also drafted two players who can help them now and for the future in the draft with Jonathan Kuminga being one of the best prospects, and Moses Moody who helps out their depth in case of injuries.

The Clippers will be without their best player Kawhi Leonard for most if not the whole season due to an ACL tear, and still re-signed him to a max deal of four years which will be the reason they don’t make the playoffs. Paul George has been a good player on both ends of the floor as he is an All-Star but he will not carry this team all season in the West to the playoffs, and without Rajon Rondo or Patrick Beverly their replacements aren’t amazing either. Reggie Jackson, Eric Bledsoe, Terrence Mann and Luke Kennard don’t scare anyone. Marcus Morris, Serge Ibaka and Nicolas Batum are nice role players upfront but health is an issue with two of them, but Ivica Zubac is a nice center. To replace Leonard they added Justice Winslow and drafted three wing players in the draft, but none of those moves again scares anyone in the west.

The Kings keep taking steps back from when they were the nine seed on the outside looking in as the following two seasons they finished 12th. They remind me of the Timberwolves a bit. When you have PG De'Aaron Fox, F/C Marvin Bagley Jr, last year’s first round pick Tyrese Haliburton and G Buddy Hield you should be better even in the West. They even have a solid role player in Harrison Barnes, re-signed Richaun Holmes, Moe Harkless, added Tristan Thompson and Alex Len which should blend well with all of this young talent, but if it didn’t work the last two years I am unsure if it will work this year. They did have two draft picks this year but their first round pick is a guard and is pretty much set here, so that didn’t make sense unless they traded Heild?
